watercolor sketch

Getroffen, Aquarellskizze, 10cm x 6 cm, Nideggen 1999
Extracted from a Richscribble as a template and idea for a watercolor painting on the theme of injuries.
Richscribbles are sheets of paper created using mixed techniques, mostly drawings and thin, fast-drying paints, which explore the representation of ideas. Successful areas serve as sketch templates for further processing and are often cut out by me, thus cutting up the Richscrbble, as in this small series.
The washed-out watercolor pigments form fine lines and outlines of a creature that has been shot through.
This spontaneous sketch effectively depicts movement without resorting to comic-like imagery, but even after several attempts, repeating it with similar verve on a larger sheet of paper did not produce good results.
This was also due to the types of paper used, such as this one, a very thin, medium-quality watercolor sheet glued onto gray cardboard. Even as practice material, it was not well suited for gouache and watercolors, but perhaps more so for inks. Apart from that, it is difficult to reproduce characteristics in a similar style that only stand out so prominently in small format due to the special properties of the water molecule and the color pigment it contains. Of course, this can be achieved in a Sisyphean task.
The aim of this sketch should not be to become a self-enslaving brush copy, but to work as loosely and freely on a large sheet of paper as is represented in the sketch itself.
