Lightpainting
XN, Mittelformatdia 6x6, Livingroom 1, Köln 2007
This medium format slide captured a light painting during a public rehearsal in Livingroom 1. There are no further works on this performance to date. I don’t remember what XN was supposed to mean. However, at that time I also had another project with the title – Perlenstern – in which I developed a form to insert live handwriting, e.g. as a title. Nothing comes by itself, everything always has to be developed from the idea and it may very well be that this was the tentative first attempt to bring simple characters into the performance.

I found notes on the series of images for this performance – on a piece of torn paper from a bread roll bag that I used to wrap a Chinese inkstone that was probably still wet in Livingroom 1 in 2007. It was just a scrap of a torn-open bread bag on which I had jotted down keywords from a remote viewing session the day before with the question „Which musician would my overhead projector performance best suit?“
I remember locking the doors to the hall, it was a sunny day at lunchtime. The large hall was so dark that I couldn’t even see my own hands. I couldn’t find the block and caught the bag of rolls left over from breakfast. In almost complete darkness, I „pondered“ while standing in front of one of the large work tables and found letters in the booming blackness. It wasn’t quite what I had expected and somehow it didn’t seem that clear.
I felt I was writing down a letter every 5 minutes or so with a pencil that I can still remember well, because it would have been a lot of effort to light up again to find another pencil, and the tip broke the first time I put it down – but it still did it.
I can recognize the following letters in sequence on the torn-off part of the bread roll bag: X A V E S NURT OO, the X and the N are the initials of an artist who probably makes music. I didn’t take the two Os at the end very seriously, which is probably why I stopped.
You mustn’t forget that the Livingrooms, especially the first one, cost me a lot of money and in this respect the question of artists with whom I could also achieve public success was also a bit of an existential question. Sure, it’s not my – and probably most artists‘ – top priority, but it’s still a question that can be asked.
I went to the internet cafe near the hall, but I couldn’t find anything about this name combination using a search engine. Shortly afterwards, the rehearsals started and as this dark remote viewing experience had left me with a few more emotions, I immortalized the initials in one of the pictures and photographed it.
But who is Xaver Nurtoo?
If I had had more to do with young people at the time, I might have thought of it back then. It could have been a good fit, because this artist, exhausted, took a break in 2007, which for artists doesn’t mean that they no longer want to be creative, but rather that they want to withdraw from the general public; for famous artists, it’s more the masses of fans and the whole business world; for non-famous artists, a break means taking a break from all the influences of other artists and doing something for yourself. But this artist was and is still famous in 2024.
XAVIER NAIDOO
with civil name Xavier Kurt Naidoo.
I wouldn’t have thought of it on my own, in 2007 this name would have meant nothing to me. But it’s amazing how close you can get with remote viewing. Everything is connected to everything and I think that at the moment I asked myself the question and wrote it down (very important), he might have been thinking of taking a break, a break to develop something new – that could well have been the case. But unfortunately I didn’t understand, otherwise I would certainly have tracked him down and invited him.
Everyone receives offers and opportunities every day. It’s not a bad thing if you don’t take advantage of one or the other, but you should at least notice it – even if it’s 17 years later. I’m sure I’ll get another offer tomorrow – what am I talking about – probably tonight, but I’ve become even more selective than I was 17 years ago.
I don’t know much about Naidoo. I only noticed him when he announced his findings about gene spraying and that pretty much coincided with everything I had found out up to that point. But I don’t know any of his songs and I wouldn’t recognize him on the street. A few months ago I had listened to a podcast that I link here.
He must have had to „pay“ for his findings on the big scam and finally recanted everything – poor guy – everything he had said was correct.
If you’re reading this, Kurt, don’t let the pressure get to you – you don’t need glitter if you’re really an artist. Maybe do a remote viewing session and if any letters that include my initials „fly“ to you, feel free to contact me. It would be a good fit right now as I’m taking some time off.
