Image sequence performance

From 1994, I returned to my series of paintings with an improved color system. I didn’t give up performance work with musicians, other performers and dancers because of this, but I wanted to develop more independent works again.

Image sequences have something of the comic and the earlier marketplace storytellers, but do not necessarily follow a narrative thread. A sequence of images can also be very abstract, such as in the performance Elephant Board, where I paint shapes and cracks of elephants for a lecture on forest elephants, then blur the surface again and start painting elephants again. In picture sequences as a narrative, a story is in the foreground and the picture is painted very comfortably and calmly and is finished exactly when I finish the paragraph.

This print is the last image of the Venice image sequence performance, which I then covered with a

watercolor board to preserve it. I have performed this light painting performance several times and so there are several variations of this last picture. You can see a pictorial increase in the other two examples. The picture above is the clearest and shows a breakfast table in a room with a high window and a view of gondolas.
